Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Dan A — 09 Mar 2016
I was looking forward to this but was left disappointed. I've never really loved the Coen brothers but I do love certain films of theirs, they've never been consistent with me over their careers.
This is very disjointed, which can work on occasion but I felt the story needed to be tighter, it meanders around in every direction a little too much. There's a lot of big names in the film but the majority of them only have about 5 minutes of screen time, if that.
I think they just wanted to slap a load of names on the poster and in the trailer to entice an audience. I really liked the 40's/50's Hollywood aesthetics and there are a few laughs (Not as many as I was hoping for though) and the performances are fine enough.
It's a decent film overall but a little bit of a hollow experience.
