Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Markus M — 14 Mar 2016

The film is consistenly amusing and entertaining, although unlike the trailers might have you believe, it doesn't really focus on one core plotline. The film is more of an ensemble piece about a film studio and all the people working there rather than about a linear narrative with a beginning, middle, and an end, meaning it drops the kidnapping plot sold in the trailers more than once to focus on other completely unrelated subplots. Which isn't a bad thing, altough I'm not sure the film quite utilizes the potential of that approach. Then again the kidnapping plot isn't very elaborate or interesting on its own either. Bottom line I guess is that the film is a very entertaining watch but that there's no use in looking for any substance in it.
