Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Chris M — 25 Mar 2016
An affectionate and immaculate homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood Studio movie-making. It's utter fluff that won't live long in the memory, and I tend to share some of the criticisms that suggest it's low on plot and high on the Coen Brothers shooting some fun sequences with their friends.
But when it's as well done as this, with as many laughs as this, who cares? I LOL'ed in practically every scene. Virtually everyone in the stellar cast has a great moment. I had to stifle my laughter at Ralph Fiennes and Channing Tatum, loved every moment Alden Ehrenreich was on screen, loved Frances McDormand, Jonah Hill and the whole cabal of Communists. It might be lightweight, but it would stand a rewatch. Great entertainment.
