Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Jaik W — 11 Apr 2016
Hail, Caesar is brilliant. After a couple of less than stellar movies the Coens are back in prime form. Every scene has a little gem hidden in the dialogue, the imagery, the characters; to be mined in repeated views. And like all of their best work it tells a multiple stories at once on separate metaphoric & direct levels, to be gathered through the viewer's own context and pretext. Smart. Funny. Classic.
Any of the poor reviews I have seen are from people unable to see anything except the surface plot as though it were an action film. Its a failing in themselves, not the movie. Its not for everyone. If you prefer Fast & Furious 12 to Barton Fink, look elsewhere.
