Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Danburrito — 13 Mar 2016

Hail, Caesar may be a little bit underwhelming in some aspects, but it's a very entertaining film with great set pieces and a committed cast. The movie's main flaw was its somewhat slow pace - I felt it needed a bit more energy.

And the kidnapping of Clooney's character didn't seem necessary to the plot. But all complaints aside, I enjoyed it very much. The scenes on the various set pieces of the various films were easily the best.

George Clooney was in top form, and the rest of the cast were great too. Josh Brolin played his character well, with Scarlett Johansson, Alden Ehrenreich and Ralph Fiennes to name a few turning in highly impressive supporting performances.

The production design was amazing. They deserve an Oscar for that. FINAL VERDICT: Hail, Caesar may prove frustrating to some (and you probably need to be a movie-buff to fully appreciate it) but it's a solid Coen Brothers flick and an affectionate, humorous tribute to Hollywood's golden age that should satisfy fans of old cinema.
