Review of Hail, Caesar! (2016) by Jess_Hill — 28 Feb 2016

This was a disappointing film which is difficult to categorise, as it's comprised of a series of self-aware film cliches strung together in an attempt to form some kind of meta commentary on the nature of film itself (I think).

There are laughs to be had, but only as a result of singular sequences, the storyline being too esoteric to enjoy in a broader sense. The performances, really just a sequence of cameos, are good but contrived, caricature rather than substantive.
