Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Colt A — 03 Mar 2017
Putting aside all Gibson's insanity & taking this film as its own stand alone project... it is am amazing film. it very elegantly captures the beauty in the struggle Desmond T. Doss underwent. thid film does a spectacular job of showing Doss standing up for his beliefs... and the struggles he was forced to endure as he refuses to compromise to the will of the world around him. it is a perfect example of what it truly means to have strong character.
The film is paced perfectly to offer the viewer time to really connect with Doss & understand his beliefs. it allows you time to connect him, the person, before it transactions into the wartime setting in third act. the time it offers allows you to have a truly vested interest in the outcome of Doss... despite already knowing it as it's based on a true story.
This serves as a great example of how vitally important it is, to allow the time for character development in the first act. in doing so, the viewer will have a desire to see how "their new friend" handles himself in this adverse situation.
