Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Chiek E — 25 Aug 2017
"I fredstid begraver sønner sine fedre. I krigstid begraver fedre sine sønner. ". Heroism of a different kind from our spidey hero Andrew Garfield who acted as the brave combat medic Doss in this film.
Picked for the role probably because of Andrew´s uncanny resemblance with the real Doss. A true story from the second world war, Doss single handedly searched and rescued 75 wounded soldiers when the troops had left them for dead at Hackshaw Ridge.
Unknown to the commander that Doss had stayed behind to search for the wounded under heavy Japanese troops attack. Nothing short of a miracle and a requirement of superhuman strength to accomplish the super heroic feat.
. Not since Saving Private Ryan has another film depicted war violence so gruesomely bloody, realistically and relentlessly. Severed limbs and bullet entry wounds were just too realistic for comfort. I was squirming a lot while watching the scenes of massacre.
Excellent film with a huge dose of Christian faith that enabled Doss to display selfless heroism. A theme probably relished greatly by director Mel Gibson, who gave us the incredible Passion of Christ.
