Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Lambo442 — 26 Jan 2017
A superbly shot war film with Gibson's trademark dose of sentimentality which always seems appropriate but not too over the top. The valour shown by these men as they charged into such a formidable enemy comes across very well and let's give it up for the Japanese too as they were hardcore beyond belief.
If you're gonna go to war and kill, which let's be honest is barbaric anyway, then why not go completely balls out and get the kamikaze bombings and torturing going? The Japanese get called 'the devil himself.
' The whole thing is very patriotic as it's Hollywood and Gibson's own moral stance always shines through but this is counteracted nicely by the lead character himself who had a respect for all human life.
