Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Samantha M — 17 Jan 2018
Not usually a war films person, but I love a good true story and this film delivers. It's the true story of a pacifist who signed up to be a war medic and refused to carry a gun. Its incredibly moving portrayal.
There are elements of glorification of America, but towards the end they begin to build up some sympathy for some of the Japanese soldiers, so it wasn't too anti-Japanese. This film is definitely worth the watch.
Small warning, I would say its above Saving Private Ryan in terms of levels of violence in war scenes. A lot of blood, heads being blown off, people exploding etc so be prepared for that when you see it (and you should!).
