Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Christi G — 11 Mar 2017
Garfield's performance was strong, but Vince Vaughn's was a total Sergeant trope, completely overplayed. It felt like a rip off of much better films like Full Metal Jacket.
Hacksaw Ridge had many, familiar themes. I kept thinking, this reminds me of Braveheart, only nowhere near as good. I loved Braveheart, but found Hacksaw wanting.
I was more than a little annoyed by the whole "religious freedom" agenda. This man's experience and Garfield's portrayal were enough. There was no need to inject current, political agendas.
