Review of Hackers (1995) by Kyle S — 01 Mar 2010
Watching the movie now makes the technology in the movie seem comical, sure, but I don't think that's its weakest link (any movie based around computers will eventually seem comical given enough time).
There are two big problems with the movie, I think. 1) It has the least threatening antagonist possible -- Fisher Stevens plays a goofy computer geek who is about as scary as a rash. And 2) the movie tries too hard to be funny at times, and worse, it usually resorts to slapstick. It's not very often I think a movie should take itself more seriously, but in this case, I think it would have been much better if it had. That, or get someone with a better sense of humour to help with the script.
