Review of Hackers (1995) by Rick R — 04 Nov 2012
Hackers (1995).
This obvious teen exploitation film does everything it sets out to do. Anybody who has read the book "Hacker Crackdown" knows that this film is full of it, but who cares, you're having so much fun watching their computer antics and the burning sexual tension between Dade Murphy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Kate (Angelina Jolie).
Dade (Miller) was a child prodigy with the computer, who got caught hacking into a government mainframe. Now as a teen, newly off parole, and moved to New York City, he's ready to get back on-line. But, being the new kid, he's got a lot to prove with the local hacker community.
On the other side is special agent Dick Gill (Wendell Pierce) who is out to get these pesky kids. This was done at a time when most on-line stuff was Unix-only, but Hollywood did their best to make the computer stuff more graphic; well for 1995. :-).
