Review of Hackers (1995) by Rachel W — 23 Oct 2012
This is one of those "you had to be there" movies. If you were into computers and hacking in the '90's then this is one of the best movies of your lifetime. Not because it accurately portrayed hacking or computers, but because there was so much behind it that was relevant and real at the time, like Red Boxing payphones, the 2600 references, and the cyber punk subculture that never quite happened like it was supposed to.
If you weren't into computers or were born after 1985, it will look like a ridiculous joke of a movie because you don't understand how it was before the net went mainstream or how it was in the early stages of computers.
