The true life story of the dog Hachiko is legendary in Japan where a bronze statue has been erected in his honour outside Shibuya Station, Tokyo. This Hollywood version transfers the story from 1920's/30's Japan to the present day but the core of what the story is all about remains - one dog's devotion to his master even after his death.

Richard Gere is fantastic in this movie, he bonded really well with the dog and it never felt like watching an actor at all - it genuinely seemed to be a movie with his own dog! Hachi's tale is touching and movie and will surely bring a tear to one's eye by the end credits.

Recommended.
