Finally got around watching this even though I've owned the bluray for a while now. (only DVD worthy btw, too much grain in the upconverting) Great story - but the fact that it didn't jerk a tear out of me must mean I'm a colder person than I thought.
Would be interested to see if I can see the original 1987 film...
