Review of Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) by Francesca G — 04 Aug 2012
One of the most touching movies I have seen in a long time. I love watching sad movies, but I am so hesitant sometimes because I know I will be balling my eyes out. And I did exactly that while watching this movie.
Hachi: A dog's tale is the American version to the Japanese movie Hachiko Monogatari. Which is all based on the true story of a faithful dog Hachi who would bring his owner who was a college professor to the train station everyday for work and would return exactly at 5 o'clock to walk him home. One day his owner Parker (Richard Gere) passes away while giving a lecture in class and Hachi was left still waiting for his owner to come off the train. For 9 years Hachi would return to the same spot at the same exact time every day waiting for his owners arrival until he later passed away (which was not shown in the movie, but was mentioned later before the credits). This movie was beautifully made in my opinion. Richard Gere has a wonderful connection with the dog, you would actually believe that this is his own dog, and that his love for the dog was genuine, as is the love of the dog for him. If you are a dog lover as I am, you will love this movie, and cry your eyes out. You can't help but cry watching this dog show his faithfulness for his owner day in and day out even after his passing. If you haven't watched this movie, your missing out in watching a great heartfelt tale about a dog's love for his master. So go watch it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
