Review of Habit (1981) by James W — 22 Nov 2007
Interesting character study cum horror film by the underrated Larry Fessenden (who plays the main lead). Fessenden gives a solid performance as the main character whose well-developed, defined, and believable.
The narrative walks cleverly on the line between reality and fabrication, and the atmosphere is surprisingly rich for such a low budget... but the narrative itself is rather flat with no real clear direction, despite some interesting ideas.
It is fairly original (even though "Martin" covers the same ground, that was done in a different manner), but the film simply suffers from a cold, emotionless distance that it establishes, thus not allowing the viewing to become as wholly involved as we would like to be.
Despite all this, it is still rather interesting, clever, and resourceful little flick.
