Review of Guys Reading Poems (2016) by D V — 01 Mar 2018
I love poetry and I love movies, but I wasn't sure if they would go together very well. I think this movie did a really great job making poetry cinematic and the story itself was gripping and unusual.
At first, my brain was working on overdrive to try to put it all together, then I kind of just relaxed and went with the flow of the film and really enjoyed it. It's like watching a symbolic dream that doesn't all make sense right away.
This is not a movie to watch while texting or doing other stuff - it requires your full attention for sure because of all the twists and turns and going back and forth in time and from a real world to an imaginary one.
It's also not the right movie to watch when you're in a happy mood. But if you're in the mood for a darker film and you're open-minded, I def think it is a very worthwhile movie. Alexander Dreymon - the dad - is particularly good.
