Review of Guys and Dolls (1955) by Marc H — 11 Jan 2008
Being a lifelong Salvationist myself this was obviously a must-see at some point...and once seen proved an addiction in this household. My two teenage sons also took to it in a big way and even my 3-year-old spent weeks running around the house singing ' I got the horse-ride here' (sic).
Sinatra, despite his protestations, was undoubtedly in his correct part, Brando sings (albeit with the help of skilful multi-tracking) and Jean Simmons is heart-melting even half a century later. However, it is Stubby Kaye who steals the show.
One of the best musicals and well worth a watch for all sorts of reasons!
