Review of Guru (2007) by Sunay S — 01 Jul 2007
This one is worth watching for the last half hour and that too mostly for abhishek's acting. I am disappointed to say that a director like maniratnam has chosen to add a little masala and length to a second film in a row after yuva because with roja and bombay he established his status as an elite and unorthodox director in hindi cinema.
now he choses to make money by giving the masala audience a little more while comprimising his material for his true fans. the only thing I like about his direction here is how he choses to evolve abhishek physically throughout the movie and how abhishek's performance evolves in his movies (also yuva) versus his other works.
for this reason maniratnam is still a director for the true appreciators of cinema in bollywood but he needs to go back to what achieved that status for him.
