Review of Guru (2007) by Swetha S — 22 Sep 2007
First half was pretty good. Second half sucked. The ending was absolutely horrid. Basically the message of the film was capitalism, even crony capitalism is amazing, and in a matter of fact way tells socialists to 'shut up' because they are bourgeouse upper class prigs who try to keep the middle class down with socialist bull.
Not that I believe in socialism. The first half was very accurate in potraying the license raj in India so kudos for that (and I admit my hopes went up at this moment that the movie would be decent but when I saw the last scene, I lost it).
Love story was completely pointless. Bit of dour acting from Rai. Abhishek Bacchan is fabulous. Movie illustrates perfectly the attitude of the rising middle class and especially the noveau rich iin India.
Not Recommended.
