Review of Gunner Palace (2004) by Frank G — 06 Mar 2005
The movie poster in the lobby promised a special documentary. However, the film falls flat on its face into the dusty streets of Baghdad. This is one of the worse documetnaries I have encountered in some time.
There is no progression of theme, there is no story, there is no message, there are no reveleations. Moments ment to be profound meditations are silly. The footage is not even that good. The editing is uneven and don't even think about the soundtrack because it doesnt have one.
The cut-a-way to the film maker's return home was bizarre and unimaginative and poorly placed. Absolutely nothing is revealed, it is little more information than we saw on television and this guy spent a month there? Don't waste your time and don't even bother DVD.
