Review of Gunga Din (1939) by Justin O — 14 Oct 2008

Here we have it, folks...the quintessential guy movie: mischief, mayhem, heated battles and bloody carnage. And it was only made in 1939! The acting is way over the top, the value system super-idealistic, and the special effects cheesy even for the time period.

But I'll be damned if I wasn't entertained every single second of the 117 minute running time. The scenery and sets are lush, and there's enough gunfire to satisfy even the most red-blooded of us males.

It may be clunky by today's standards, but it packs more of a wallop than 99% of new releases.
