Gung Ho is like an onion. On the surface it's a heartwarming, laugh out loud comedy, but when you start to peel back the layers you uncover a brilliantly subversive expose that reveals the dirty underbelly of Japan-American economic relations.
Keaton's performance, which is symbolic of the protectionist policies encouraged by the west post WWII, is another oscar/golden globe worthy performance that was not recognized as what it was- brilliant - until it was seen in full 1080p bluray glory.
