Review of Gun (2010) by David M — 05 Jan 2011
For a film written by and starring 50 Cent, its actually not as bad as I imagined. His writing and acting are about the same, below average to solid, but not awful. It makes it all tolerable, if not entirely interesting all the time. Its pretty standard fare cops and robbers story, with everyone given a side of the story, and a little empathy tossed in. Throw in a ridiculously hot girl and you've got standard fare DTV action film.
The only reason I even watched the movie is the continued completion of my Val Kilmer collection. Val looks pretty bad in this movie, as much as I'd like to say it fits the character, I know 90% of it isn't a choice for the character. Beside his continued struggle to get his weight under control, Val is ok in the movie. He's pretty sad and downtrodden, kind of a low energy low life. He's pretty serene and depressed, and he does well at it. Toward the end when he gets some sympathy built up for him, its a little more interesting.
All in all nothing really noteworthy, not bad, just average. Here's to hoping once Blood Out is out of the way, Val will stop appearing in this type of B-side movie.
