Review of Gummo (1997) by Doug B — 08 Aug 2009
Beautiful scene after horrifying scene after beautiful scene is episodically run through here. The quality of writing, direction and the performances teased out from the host of non-actors is sublimely realised by Korine.
A disturbing, yet touching and darkly comic, yet painfully despondent drama that's very loose string of narrative threads serves to emphasise to de-structured, ostracized and isolated town post-tornado, it may be hard for some to take in but overall a very rewarding risk taken.
