Review of Gummo (1997) by Rachel O — 22 Dec 2009
Gummo is the closest thing to resembling a nightmare. I can't remember a film in recent memory that opened my eyes so much; and in just 85 minutes. Pretty much every scene is memorable. Gummo is just a beautiful collection of shots and a dark look into the world of tornado ridden slack jawed white trash.
They never make films like this. And there's nothing pretentious about it. Films that make you uncomfortable but unable to look away are pretty special.
