Review of Gummo (1997) by Maxwell S — 05 Jun 2012
Worst art-house film ever. I tend to love art-house films and films that are disturbing at the same time. This did not accomplish either of those (correctly). This film was a sprawling mess, which is obviously what Korine intended, but it's not as artistically inclined as he thinks.
There was absolutely no worth while scene until the scene where they play "Crying", which I'm gonna be honest, was quite beautiful, everything about that scene. It wasn't a total bore, I mean I almost turned it off once, but I got through easily.
Still, there are few films that can succeed with a non-linear/non-conventional film, this one didn't.
