Review of Gummo (1997) by Joel R — 26 Apr 2010
I watched this movie almost entirely because it stars the kid who played young Dana Carvey in The Road to Wellville, so I had no expectation going in. Gummo fufulls those expectations. The fact that Chloë Sevigny dated the director makes me concerned for her sanity. It is nothing but a series of mental emeses from the director. There is, in total, about three minutes of Gummo that have any value at all and I'll describe them for you:
1)a little girl screams that she wants a moustache and wants to look like Burt Reynolds.
2)the aforementioned kid from Wellville has a brief scene where he he tapes together two handfulls of silverware and procedes to use them as barbells while he "works out" in front of a mirror.
3)this joke: I knew a guy who was cross eyed. But he was also dyslexic so everything worked out ok in the end.
There. Now you have no reason to watch Gummo. You can thank me later.
