Review of Gulliver's Travels (2010) by Tim T — 15 Oct 2011
Another classic story that has been done way too many times before, but this new comedic version starring Jack Black seemed to work for me. He plays a mail room assistant bent on getting ahead in life and is given the chance to cover a story about a mysterious island in the Bermuda Triangle.
The film is very funny and the special effects work most of the time. I did think that 2 scenes seemed to be out of place in the film though. One involving Gulliver being sent to the island of the unknown and becoming a small children's doll in a big girl's dollhouse.
That scene was just odd and didn't seem to be needed. Also very awkward and absurd was a song and dance number at the end of the film to Bruce Springsteen's "War". All in all, a decent family movie.
