Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Trisha W — 04 Jan 2009
I decided to watch this film after seeing the remake of Guess Who with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher. The remake was more for the laughs and this film was more for the subject matter. The idea of creating this film during a time when inter-racial marriages really was a controversial topic (even today it isn't completely removed but compared to the time of the movie.
..). But the film did an excellent job exposing the inner thoughts of the inter-racial mind frame as well as the sudden love and wanting to run away at the drop of the hat. The story was realistic in that such a thing could definitely happen and I could definitely see such attitudes come forward such as there's no difference between black and white but don't ever fall in love with the other.
The film was quite memorable and satisfying to watch.
