Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Caleb M — 29 Sep 2011
Although it never gets past the feeling of being an "important" or "big issue" movie, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner has a refreshing sense of humor to it. That doesn't entirely stop it from being preachy and (at times) downright silly in it's approach to the "problem" of interracial marriage, but it's nice that it isn't all serious all the time.
Sidney Poitier is fantastic, managing to anchor the film with the most believable character while simultaneously being the model of the "acceptable black man". Again, this film isn't perfect, and at times I felt it was just plain wrong, but it's trying to find what's right, and it's often quite funny in doing so.
