Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Nick G — 11 Nov 2008
Perhaps it was a huge coincidence with Obamas victory, but Guess Who's Coming to Dinner has been playing on Turner Movie Classics lately, and I caught it on Sunday. After all these years, its still a great film. (Though I can see some sexism in it now, and they made Joey's character a bit naive.).
If you havent seen this great 1967 film, a young deliriously optimistic white woman brings home her older, black doctor fiance(Sidney Portier) home to meet her parents, and tells them they are to be married in weeks.
Spencer Tracey and Katherin Hepburn play the parents, who always considered themselves as "liberals" but have to come face to face with their own prejudices, literally right in their own living rooms.
