Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Anthony B — 11 Dec 2017
Not without its shortcomings but way better than the original, which I was not fan of. Unlike it's predecessor, Guardians Vol. 2 was funny, exciting, and emotional. I wish this had been the first installment because it actually set up characters and worlds to the point where I actually cared.
I was entrained by the action, engrossed in the story, and invested in the characters. Admittedly I went into this one excited/determined to hate it (despite my love for James Gunn and Kurt Russell) but I found myself charmed from scene one.
Unlike the underwhelming and overrated Thor Ragnarok, which was just okay, Guardians 2 succeeds in achieving a fun, fresh style that Marvel Studios has never served up before.
