Nice emotional development in both Star Lord and Gamora. Star Lord is every child who has a missing parent who comes back. He idolizes his new-found dad, overlooks his obvious issues, and finally is faced with deciding who is his "real" family.

Gamora and her sister struggle to make and adult relationship out of the mess of their childhood abuse that pitted them against each other. In the end there is a sense of forgiveness and reconciliation.

I loved this movie for these important themes. Having children through adoption, they have faced these issues and it is so good to see them played out onscreen. I would encourage parents who have kiddos who have faced abuse or have a missing parent to make sure their kid is ready to see this kind of storyline.

Talk with them about how it felt to see Star Lord meet his dad and have to turn away from his dad. Talk about the hurt the abuse Gamora and her sister experienced and how it wasn't their fault. This movie is a good tool for kids who are ready for it -- just be prepared for discussion after wards.
