Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Lash4Wn328 — 12 May 2017
Another perfectly adequate and totally unmemorable Marvel movie. I give it a slightly better-than-average score because Chris Pratt is a genuinely likable and charismatic lead, but the rest is, not BAD, but nothing you'll remember by the time you're in your car driving home.
Like all the other comic book movies, the visuals are very slick and there are some amusing quips and inventive set-pieces, but that's the entire appeal right there. The characters all have the gravitas of moody 14-year-olds wrestling with their hormones, there's absolutely zero sense of real drama or tension or emotionally engaging conflict (Kurt Russell does his best but his villain winds up being just another generic Cosmic Blob of Evil that wants to eat the universe... like basically every other Marvel movie), and to the extent there are twists or surprises you'll see them coming from a mile away.
But hey, why even bother criticizing a piece of extruded corporate product like this.
