Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Jonathan R — 04 Jun 2017
I'm blown away by the cgi. It almost distracts you from the predictable plot and the lack of a great group battle scene, unfortunately it also distracts from the cast and their incredible commitment to these silly, still not entirely developed yet still entirely awesome characters.
Volume 2 is far too wrapped around its soundtrack, baby Groot's cuteness and its director's corporate loyalty like a python on a trash panda but it's funny, awe-inspiring and touching enough to fit in with this tidal wave of great Marvel movies.
I can't imagine Infinity Wars solving the character development issue but if these actors continue to do wonderful things the issues won't matter much and I'll continue to be giddy on the edge of my seat like a tween.
Kurt Russel, Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker both make and steal this show, a spectacular show that's worth the price of a few IMAX screenings.
