Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Delphinus C — 24 May 2017
Much more interesting story than the first, with no all-powerful MacGuffin in play (thank goodness, something different).
However the tonality is all over the place, goofy jokes amid supposedly high-stakes, emotionally charged action scenes, funky music over an unnecessarily macabre scene of dead bodies floating down like rain (judging by the humour and basic-ness, I thought this film was for kids/teenagers!).
And frankly, once the villain' s plan was fully realized by our protagonists, I was ready for the thing to end. But no, there's like a 40 minute, drawn-out action scene to sit through.
I get that this series is meant to be irreverent, I just wish they could be brave enough to be irreverent towards the cliche long action sequence climax. Just end it super suddenly!; THAT would surprise and amuse me.
I enjoyed the Gomorrah/her sister side story.
