Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Colby H — 16 May 2017
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the squeal to the 2014 film, (of course) and it stars the original cast as well.
This one is about Chris Pratt's character as he begins a relationship with his father (Kurt Russel) and knows more about him. All while trying to survive against enemies in the process.
Now before I go any farther, I want to say that the first one was an MCU masterpiece. A true staple in pop-culture. When I watch a sequel, I expect it to be better or the same as the first.
This installment did not do this, but it was still a lot of fun.
I was five minutes into this film and I thought to myself, 'This is going to have a ton of CG isn't it', and just as I suspected, it had a lot of CGI. It was good CGI, but there was a ton of it. It also delved deeper into the characters that we were introduced to in the first. I had one problem with the the Character development though. It took almost the entire movie to figure out who the main antagonist was. For me, that was pretty confusing.
The acting was fairly solid. It could've been better considering that a large percentage of the cast was completely brought together with visual effects. The comedic side was solid as well. Like I said, it wasn't as good as the jokes in the first, but they were good enough to laugh at.
My biggest complaint is that there are times when the story gets dull. It was mostly reasonable, yet there are a few scenes where Peter develops a relationship with his father. Those scenes got old very fast.
Everything in this movie that wasn't perfect was sirtenly good.
Over all, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wasn't as good as the first, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I had a really good time with it. 4/5 stars.
