Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Vincent L — 22 May 2017
In short: I love the first one. Sadly to me, the second one didn't add a single thing and is mostly redundant. The story is stupid and the satire is just more of the same. The 3 stars is simply, because I do love the characters so much, especially Drax and Gamorah. Star Lord is frankly getting on my nerves and his daddy issues didn't have much interest for me. Speaking of which, Kurt Russell deserves a lot more than this rather weak sauce of a character, come on, you can't treat Snake Plisskin like that, show some respect!!!!
Nice to see the tragically underrated Michael Rooker getting a long overdue bigger part.
Baby Groot is cute, but the creators went dangerously close with the character to the edge of the Jar Jar Binks abyss, but they just managed to stop right on time.
As for the "dazzling visuals", yeah, nicely done, but it's not what this franchise is about, it's about the characters and their progression was rather a disappointment as far as I am concerned.
