Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Bobby L — 02 Sep 2017
Sure, it wasn't as refreshingly new as the first one. But can you really re-think an already re-thought wheel? This movie didn't have to be anything more than an extension of the first movie, which it was. Funny, beautiful, well acted and scripted, and chock full of awesome music. I thought that they did improve upon Gamora in this movie. She looked cooler, and felt more fleshed out. She was the weakest point of the first movie for me, she essentially felt like "green-skinned alien sidekick girl". In this movie her makeup is cooler, her costume is cooler, and the character development with her and Nebula was excellent.
While Baby Groot certainly steals the show, many of the other characters are really allowed to shine. I think the obvious one to mention here is Yondu, but every other lead character has some great moments. It is still funny to me that with the exception of one or two scenes, Drax is essentially maniacally laughing the whole time. Mantis was a fun addition, and Kurt Russell was awesome. I don't want to talk about him too much, for the sake of spoilers, but he was the perfect choice for the role.
I am talking a lot. All you really need to know is that this an awesome story with awesome visuals, awesome music, and awesome acting done by awesome actors.
Or I could just say it's awesome. It's awesome. AWESOME!
