Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Dan E — 12 May 2018
Having never heard of this team before Marvel announced they will make it into a film, "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a total surprise to me. A pleasant one, that's for sure. A group of extraterrestrial misfits, led by the outlaw Peter Quill, also known as (only to himself) Star-Lord, escapes prison after stealing an orb that they are planning to sell.
What they seem to ignore though, is that this orb is what a couple of powerful beings are searching for and that gets them into some serious danger. Those any familiar with these comics or the characters already know that this is an important chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but even if you haven't seen any of the prior films in the franchise, you are guaranteed to enjoy this crazy trip to outer space with some of the funniest creatures in the entire galaxy.
That includes some short of a human, two aliens, a raccoon and a tree. It's crazier than it sounds. Chris Pratt continues to charm with this performance while the rest of the cast showcase their endless charisma and comic timing.
The soundtrack is undeniably lit, with hit songs mostly from the 70s. The visuals are otherworldly, the action is insane, the characters are surprisingly relatable and three-dimensional and the film just hits all the right notes, to the point where I couldn't care less that the villain was wasted.
This might just be the most fun and entertaining film in the entire genre.
