Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Merijn J — 08 Apr 2018
Superb addition to the Marvel cinematic universe that sends it in exciting new directions. The cast is excellent across the board, with Chris Pratt stepping into stardom as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, while Rocket Raccoon (in a brilliant combination of Bradley Cooper's vocal acting & CGI) is everything you want & more.
Behind the camera, James Gunn crafts a hilarious, action-filled space opera while still maintaining his edge, despite the required PG-13 rating. The only slight flaw is the main villain, Ronan the Accuser, who never comes across as more than an evil terrorist who likes to kill people (no fault to the actor Lee Pace, who brings credible authority & menace to the role).
Plus, the soundtrack is one of the best produced for any film and a must own by itself. However, he serves the job of being a threat to unite the guardians. All together, still the best MCU movie to date.
