Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Stanley K — 01 Aug 2015

Fun romp and surprisingly emotional at times when it focuses on misfits being better together. But gets much more rote whenever the boringly conceived and executed villains turn up or when the obligatory big action-effects sequences come along.

There's a sense that the movie might actually be better without all that baggage, which seems to be the direction the writing and direction points towards.
