Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Sean L — 07 Jan 2018

Shockingly fun. I had no idea what Guardians of the Galaxy was before this movie came out, and it surprised me (and the world, it seems) with its well-written, funny, well-paced, well-cast, sci-fi-in-the-MCU action adventure.

It never takes itself seriously and puts fun as the #1 priority and nails it. It's not the deepest story, nor are the characters, but they establish themselves quickly as lovable misfits and are all likable in their own way.

Dave Bautista as Drax was used sparingly, but effectively, and proved that this wrestler can act when used appropriately. Chris Pratt is the star, though, in every sense of the word. He carries the movie with his charm, comedic timing, and believable action scenes.
