Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Xander M — 21 Jan 2018
When I heard about this I thought Kevin Feige had a stroke. Why would he scrape the bottom of the barrel for the Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought this movie would suck but thank god I was wrong. This movie is amazing.
It is the funniest Marvel movie and it has the best music. This movie is almost as good as The Avengers. It is the second best MCU movie. Chris Pratt as Star Lord is great. The beginning while fairly depressing really shows the characters heart before he is kidnapped by aliens and becomes a snarky yet funny looter.
Zoe Saldana as Gamora is also good. Since she wants to kill Thanos we immediately side with her. Dave Bautista as Drax is also great. I was worried about his acting since he is a WWE fighter but he provided a character that we respect and think he is a maniac at the same time.
He is over the top but he also wants revenge against Ronin for killing his family. Vin Diesel as Groot is the best character for sure. He is the heart of the team. He saves them from death and dies himself.
Though Marvel just could not help themselves and immediately brought him back to life. Bradley Cooper as Rocket is also great. The movie makes me wonder what his backstory is which I hope they explain in a future Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Where this movie really falters is the villains. Ronin is a horrible villain and one of the worst the MCU has to offer, Nebula is not very good either and thankfully Yondu is pretty good, though he is not technically the villain.
The action is great, the music is great, the special effects are great and most of the characters are good. The only thing that holds this movie back from being better than The Avengers is the horrible villain.
