Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Griff C — 27 Sep 2017
Not only is Guardians of the Galaxy the funniest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date, it's also the most pure fun in general. Is it the best? Not quite - it doesn't exactly reach the heights of Iron Man, The Avengers, or Captain America: Civil War - but it still has the most fun of any in the series so far.
The cast goes a long way in helping this. I would praise each cast member individually, but I would be here too long, as each brings something special to the table. I do want to single out director James Gunn, though.
His passion with the project shows in every scene. I think this film's strongest attribute is its ability to stand on its own. Granted, there are a few connections to the rest of the franchise, but one can enjoy this without having seen another MCU movie.
And, of course, I would be in remiss if I did not mention the soundtrack like everybody else. I cannot think of any other movie in recent memory that utilizes its soundtrack so creatively. Any comic book or movie fan worth their mettle should not skip Guardians of the Galaxy.
