Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Matt G — 09 Sep 2017

Cliched and generic movie. A bunch of "good guys" get together to fight the bad guys and save the world. Predictably, the "good guys" do not get along at first but then they quickly become BFF's (despite hardly knowing each other and spending very little time together).

After becoming the best of friends in record time, they then handily defeat the bad guys and save the world or galaxy or universe or whatever.

I put "good guys" in quotes because they are outwardly rascally and roguish but they're good at heart -- you've seen that cliche before haven't you?

There are some truly cringeworthy, puerile attempts at humor in this movie. When Star Lord said, "Dance-off, bro" I cringed. In general, I was put off by the puerility of the entire movie and the characters in it -- it just wasn't funny to me.

None of the action sequences were memorable or cool in this movie. Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista both gave poor performances. One good thing at least is that the Guardians aren't all lily-white like the Avengers.
