Review of Grumpier Old Men (1995) by Ben R — 13 Sep 2008
This is a funny sequel to the hit original. The only thing I liked about this film above the first one was the addition of Sophia Loren as Matthau's love interest. This is one of my personal favorite films, as it is one of the many (but third to last) films pitting best friends Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau together.
The insults are just as good as the first one...with some coming in Italian from Loren. Burgess Meredith steals the show (impressive v. Lemmon & Matthau) as the 94 year old father of Lemmon's aging curmudgen of a man.
Unfortunately, if not ironic given the plot, it would be Meredith's last film (he died the following year). Highly recommended for a good time.
